The sands of Jervis Bay are renowned as the whitest in the world, next to the most beautiful blue water bay. You can enjoy a variety of exciting, adventurous, or relaxing activities.
Jervis Bay is one of two protected marine parks on the east coast of Australia. Renowned for its many startling features, travellers, divers, nature lovers come to recharge and enjoy some of the world’s best natural features.
The marine park covers 73 square kilometres and includes 22 kilometres of unspoilt beaches, with Hyam’s Beach boasting the whitest sands in the world and the range of wildlife is amazing. A “family” of 14,000 penguins inhabet Bowen Island – a colony of approx. 400 fur seals share the bay with the resident pod of 60 Bottlenose Dolphins and the visiting Humpback Whales on their holiday travels. (June to November).
Underwater Jervis Bay is compared to the Great Barrier Reef – the spectacular and colourful marine life and vegetation is a major attraction and testament to the pure natural environment that is being protected to preserve one of the country’s most valuable icons.
The Birdlife is abundant with white crested sea eagles, crested turns, sherwaters, pelicans and the albatross – to name a few.
Surrounding the bay are many national parks and reserves including the Booderee national park with walking trails, viewing platforms for whale watching – kangaroos, botanic gardens, barbecue facilities and camp sites.

Booderee National park is a short 10 minute drive from Sanddancers.
‘Booderee’ is an Aboriginal word from the Dhurga language meaning ‘bay of plenty’ or ‘plenty of fish’. Booderee is owned by the Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community and has always been a significant place for Koori people. It has provided sustenance and shelter for its Indigenous inhabitants over hundreds of generations.
A major visitor destination, Booderee has stunning white beaches and offers a wide range of recreational activities, including walking trails, surfing, fishing, camping, boating, sailing, snorkelling and diving. Our large campsites provide opportunities for school groups and families to stay in the Park and experience our magnificent natural and cultural heritage.

Booderee botanical gardens, also known as Jervis Bay botanical gardens.
Enjoy the peaceful setting of the Gardens by relaxing on the grass lawns, or using the picnic tables provided. At the Scribbly Lawn, electric BBQs and a sheltered picnic area are ideal for large groups or wet weather use. There are a number of beautiful walking trails through the Botanic Gardens and National Park and it is an excellent place to observe birds and other fauna with some fantastic photo opportunities.
